FAQ's
How often will my child need new shoes?
Our answer to this is often how long is a piece of string! We suggest that you bring a younger child in to get their shoes checked about every 6 to 8 weeks. More often than not they won’t need any new shoes, but it’s worth getting them checked in case they’ve had a sudden growth spurt. We always give all children maximum growing room, which as a starting point tends to be a thumb’s width of growth.
Are your shoes more expensive than in other shops?
We have a very broad price range and the prices vary depending on what you are looking for. Prices start from as little as £20 for a full leather girl’s shoe. If you are working to a specific budget, then please let us know and we can make sure that we select shoes for you within that range.

Are pumps bad for my child's feet if worn all day?
We have searched the globe to find a good pump style that is suitable for everyday use and we have found some great styles that are definitely suitable for everyday use. Start-rite in particular has some lovely pumps with great structure and they are now in stock.
When do you get new stock in?
Most of the stock arrives in two main delivery periods – in February and March and again in August through to the end September. School shoes are delivered in July. However, some stock is available to order throughout the year.
Can you order stock from all brands?
No, only some of the brands hold stock. For most of the brands we have to order stock six months in advance. Start-rite is one of only a few companies that keeps a wide range of stock throughout the year.
What's your return policy?
Should you wish to change any unworn shoes for any reason you can do so within two weeks as long as they are in the same condition as they left the shop. You will be able to either exchange or get a credit note. We don’t do refunds.
Do I have to make an appointment?
No, not at all. We recommend that you make an appointment during back to school time for your own convenience, but you definitely don’t have to make appointments.
When are you open?
Our shops are open Monday to Saturday from 9.30am to 5.30pm. Our Bruntsfield store is also open on a Sunday from 11.00am to 4.00pm.
What is the advantage of cruisers?
Cruisers are great for those children who are keen to get up on their feet but haven’t quite mastered walking yet. They offer protection for their little feet, which is particularly good if they like practicing their walking outside or at the park.
When should I put my child into first shoes?
Our motto is always no shoes are the best shoes for as long as possible. However, that isn’t always practical which is why cruisers are ideal for those tentative first steps. As a general rule we suggest that you wait until your child has been walking for about four weeks unaided before they go into their first pair of proper shoes.
What size do you go up to in school shoes?
We go up to an adult size 7 in a range of styles for boys and girls. Some go up to an 8 and we can order in beyond that if needed.
What your ladies size range?
Our ladies range starts from a size 3 and goes up to a size 7 or 8 depending on the style.
How does the sizing on the Crocs work?
Children’s Crocs mostly come dual-sized. They start at a 4/5, then go 6/7, 8/9, 10/11, 12/13. From a size one they are single sized, i.e. 1, 2, 3, etc. From a 4 they are classed as adults. There are two sizes on the bottom of all adult Crocs, but read the left hand size that says W beside it for the UK sizing.
This year Crocs have launched a style called Electra which has a slightly slimmer profile and is also single sized for children. Any questions then please just drop us an email or give us a phone as it sounds more complicated than it is!
Do I have to go up a size when buying Uggs?
Generally, no. The fur in Uggs “beds down” once they have been worn increasing the room for the foot, so if you go up a size they can often become too big after a month or so.
Can you post shoes abroad?
Yes, of course! We are happy to post shoes anywhere in the world. We will give you a buzz about postage costs before we send the parcel.
